The Philadelphia NO KXL Civil Disobedient Action By about 3 PM, on Monday, March 10, 2014, 29 people were arrested in a civil disobedience action while protesting against the Keystone XL pipeline (KXL) at the federal building on Arch and 6th. Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They brought brooms, stood in doorways and began sweeping in front of themselves in an approximately 3 hour display of sweeping away the “corrupt process†and politics that lead to the US State Department’s claim that the pipeline would not cause any “significant†climate damage. By blocking entrances, crossing police barricades, being willing to risk arrest and actually being arrested, they brought attention to the need for President Obama to “just say no to the KXL pipeline.†|

XL DISSENT: America’s Youth Protest Against The Keystone XL Pipeline On Sunday, March 2, 2014, a group of young people called XL Dissent organized a march from Georgetown University to Lafayette Park, which is opposite the White House, to register their opposition to the possible approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Going into more depth than the NEWS BRIEF, this video gives voice to President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, as well as, the young people participating in this action. They include: Ben Thompson of Students for a Just and Stable Future, Hannah Berkowitz, a President Obama campaign worker and Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 14 year old activist from the Earth Guardians, of Boulder, Colorado. |

Keystone XL Occupation & Arrests West Coast In coordination with the 500 youth engaging in civil disobedience at the White House on March 2nd, the West Coast youth took action to stop the Keystone XL Pipeline. I was inside to record the video as police arrested activists. |

XL Dissent Washington, DC On Sunday, March 2, 2014, the youthful group “XL Dissent†rallied, marched and then nearly 400 participated in a Civil Disobedience Action at the front fence of the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. They used plastic cuffs to tie themselves to the main gates and continued chanting and singing to President Obama as they were being arrested about stopping the Keystone XL Pipeline that is being planned to be built from Canada through the middle of the US to the Gulf of Mexico. Individually and as a group they stated that they didn’t vote for this nor do they want the pipeline. President Obama has received recently the final study he asked for concerning the need and safety for this long pipeline and will be making his decision. These youthful demonstrators have given their answer by their actions. |
