Staten Island Student Summit

 

Environmental Activism and learning about the environment can start at any age as this video documents.  Local Staten Island mid-school students came together on the beaches of Great Kills park to listen, view and touch oceanic presentations at 12 rotating stations.

With notepads in hand, the students saw and touched animals under the guidance of park rangers; performed soil testing; watched eels go upstream; did some fishing, some cleaning of the beach, learned to identify marine life and scuba equipment and usage, and much more for about 4 hours.

This event was sponsored by the Staten Island Natural Resources Protective Association (NRPA) and New Jersey’s Clean Ocean Action.  They were assisted by a number of other volunteers from:  AARP, the SI Zoo, the Billion Osyter Project, Protectors of the Pine Oaks,…..
