Love NY: Don't Frack it up - Rockaway Beach Episode - The Environment TV
www.renewableNY.com The new episode, filmed in the Rockaways, shows the vibrant beach and food scene that’s helped to reinvigorate the area. Even now, though, many residents have not fully recovered from Hurricane Sandy. New York City Councilman Donovan Richards, who represents residents in the Rockaways and who is opposed to fracking, appears in the film. He expresses his concerns about climate change and the direct impacts on his district, and advocates for moving away from fossil fuel energy sources. A wide range of people from various walks of life are featured in the episode and includes: Conrad Karl of Uma’s restaurant, Andrew Field of Rockaway Taco, Mike Kololyan & Mike Reinhart of Locals Surf Schools, impacted residents Jen Grady and Ashley Fallon, Matt Gove and Nikita Scott of Surfriders Foundation, Maureen Healy and JK Canepa of Coalition Against the Rockaway Pipeline (CARP), Jill Weingarten, a gardener at Floyd Bennett Field, and Jessica Roff of New Yorkers Against Fracking. The beach vibe is upbeat and engaging, but the serious message comes through.
